Today’s theme song may as well be “Here Comes the Rain Again”, because that’s all it’s been doing for the past two days.
Don’t get me wrong, I love that it’s finally raining after weeks of near-drought conditions that left our front lawn and the neighbourhood parks looking more brown than green, but getting a whole summer’s worth of rain in two days is pretty miserable nonetheless.
Thankfully, the rain decided to let up for a couple of hours last night, just long enough for a thousand Torontonians (including yours truly) to descend upon Fort York in their finest white outfits for the first annual Diner en Blanc, which is quite possibly the biggest and most swellegant picnic the city has ever seen.
Standing with a sparkler in hand, amid a sea of revelers dressed in white and surrounded by the bright lights of the towering condo forest that is downtown Toronto, I was reminded again why I love this city so damn much, despite the crowded subways and the never-ending traffic and the high cost of living.
So in honour of last night’s festivities, here are five gorgeous all-white (or nearly all-white) dishes that are worthy of any Diner en Blanc.
