Friday Pin-Ups: The Most Important Meal

January 25, 2013|Posted in: odds and ends

As some of you might recall, one of my resolutions this year was to bring breakfast to work every day – both for the sake of my wallet, and for the sake of my waistline. (Have you ever tried to find a healthy breakfast option on the Tim Horton’s menu? No such thing. None. That egg white breakfast sandwich is death on a bun masquerading as health food.)

We’re almost a month into the new year, and I’m happy to report that I’m totally on track. Which is impressive, because I don’t think any of my resolutions has ever lasted this long.

(Hell, my other resolution to go to the gym at least once a week only got as far as printing out the class schedule and highlighting some days I could go. I’m totally getting on that soon, though. Promise.)

Breakfast: persimmon waffles, fried ham, cappuccino.

The trick to making this particular resolution stick, I’ve discovered, is in preparing a whole week’s worth of breakfasts in advance, so that I can just grab one on my way out the door in the morning.  I’ve got bags of homemade muffins and waffles in the freezer, and jars of steel cut oats and containers of cut up fruit in the fridge.

This weekend, I’m thinking a batch of homemade granola is in order, along with another batch of muffins to replenish my supply.

For now, though, I think a celebration is in order… so here are five perfectly packable breakfast treats that fall under the header of “crave-worthy”, even if they don’t all necessarily fit under the header of “healthy”.

It’s so funny that I’m just seeing this post because I decided yesterday to start packing a breakfast everyday too! It’s always such a struggle to have anything more than coffee in the morning but I’ve heard from a nutritionist that no breakfast is a huge reason for being so hungry right after work. Great ideas in this post!

That’s a great resolution, and definitely one worth keeping. Having breakfast all ready to go in the morning totally helps me too! But on the weekends, I’m a huge fan of a slow, indulgent breakfast – love the suggestions this week!

    Hi Isabelle,
I usually take just some coffee and juice for breakfast but your proposals look so delicious that I’ll try out some of them, especially
    those Homemade Granola Bars!
